S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night!

I just remembered today that I have a blog, and I managed to locate it again, so I suppose I should do some bloggin'. It looks like I was trying a new concept- speed blogging about my fascinating life. So...

Last night we met Amy and went to James (not James, known for its big portions) for a fancy cocktail and some organic beer. Then popped over to El Molcajete Mixto a muy bueno Mexican joint that we always worry about going out of business, because it usually looks pretty empty, but it was jam packed last night. We gorged ourselves and then rolled home. I watched The Wedding Banquet (early Ang Lee film with gay Manhattanites instead of gay cowboys) on the On Demand, and then fell asleep on the couch. Party on, Garth!

What I Did Last Night in 5 Minutes or Less

I have an idea. Rather than get all bogged down in political and social and cultural commentary and such- i really don't have time to be brilliant about all that shit every day-- I've got a new bag- "What I Did Last Night in 5 Minutes or Less." I am just going to to start typing and then stop typing five minutes later. It's my experiment in self discipline and time management. It will probably be boring as shit but we'll see how it goes, shall we?

So, I'm starting my timer, and here goes...

Last night i went to pete and camille's house and drank beer and ate delicious wonderful pork. And mashed potatoes (which contained my homegrown chives) and a lovely chilled green been and grape tomato salad, (which contained my homegrown, homemade - with love - pesto). Watched a bunch of Flight of the Conchords. How funny is that shit?!? Oh crap, my 5 minutes is just about up.

Yeah, this is pretty boring. Although, interestingly, when I write under a tight timeframe, I use the word shit a lot.

It's History, Man!

I know everybody and his mother has been pushing this website, but I thought I would give it a plug, too, because I LOVE IT!

PhillyHistory.org is a mapping website that allows users to search for, view by location, and purchase thousands of historic photographs dating back to the late nineteenth century.

It is a most excellent Time Waster at work. You start searching for every place you've ever lived in Philadelphia to peep what it looked like back in the day, and before you know it, it's time for lunch! And it feels like you're learning something- it's history, man! Much more gratifying of a Time Waste than scanning TMZ to see who forgot to wear their panties today.

What Happened to the Other Half a Pill?

A guy who is so blasted he can't even get himself back into his car, stopped at some point in his pill popping and said, "Whoa, I better only take half of this one"? What pill caused him to take pause like that? Viagra? Maybe he only wanted a 2 hour boner instead of the full 4 hours?

Britt Reid faces new charges

..."Reid attempted to locate his vehicle by using the car remote," according to witnesses. "The vehicle, a large Dodge pickup truck, was approximately 15 to 20 feet in front of him and he still, apparently, could not find it."

When he did, "It took him about three attempts before he was successful getting into the vehicle," police were told.

During the search of the truck Reid was driving, police found 237 1/2 pills strewn about the vehicle and in plastic bags, and 31 pills in his pockets.

Wonder What You're Allowed to Carry On in Space?

Would-be space tourists to train in Phila. area

Philadelphia Business Journal - 9:50 AM EDT Thursday, August 30, 2007

Environmental Tectonics Corp. said Thursday its National Aerospace Training and Research Center has been named the official space-flight training provider of Virgin Galactic.

The arrangement means ETC (AMEX:ETC) will provide training for people signing up to take suborbital flights with Virgin Galactic, a subsidiary of British entrepreneur Richard Branson's Virgin Group whose mission is to make space travel available to everyone by creating the world's first commercial space airline.

The first group of space travelers will be trained at the center at ETC's Southampton, Pa., headquarters from September through November. In two-day sessions, they will receive both a grounding in aerospace physiology concepts and hands-on training in a high-performance centrifuge, culminating in a simulated space launch.

ETC said in a press release that its contract with Virgin "puts Pennsylvania on the map as the current center of commercial space training."

ETC makes simulators for training, testing and rides. It also makes hyperbaric chambers. The London-based Virgin brand includes airlines, train travel, balloon flights, books, media and wine.

SMac and Cheese Talk - Flay vs. Winder

To hell with zoning reform- the big story on Action News tonight - Delilah throws down with Bobby Flay in a Mac&Cheese Off! Oh, to have been a fly on the spatula for that one!

In the Zone

Meet the new zoning reformers
The recently appointed members of the Zoning Code Commission face the enormous task of rebuilding the city's outdated zoning code. In rewriting the code, the commissioners will determine what parts of Philadelphia's past to protect, and what this city's neighborhoods will look like in the future. It will not be quick or easy.

So who are the people making these big decisions? www.planphilly.com is asking each appointed commissioner a set of questions designed to give citizens a better understanding of this process and the people carrying it out. We will be publishing all 31 of them over the coming weeks. Just click on the name for the profile and Q&A. The commissioners' responses are in their exact words, except where parenthesis appear.

I am all for Zoning Code reform, but I wonder how these folks were picked? Delilah Winder?! (Of Delilah's restaurant (not the strip club!) fame- she makes a mean mac and cheese (Oprah's favorite!) but what qualifies her for this post? Sorry, I ain't hatin' on her- she is a long time Phila. citizen/businesswoman, which I guess should qualify her.
